Legal Mandate
The Commission exercises the powers of a Civil Court for examining complaints under Sections 13 and 14 of the Act.
Examine & Review Laws and Policies
Examine and review the safeguards provided by or under any law for the time being in force for the protection of child rights and recommend measures for their effective implementation.
Inquire into Complaints
Inquire into complaints relating to deprivation and violation of child rights and take suo motu cognizance of matters relating to non-implementation of laws providing for protection of child rights.
Inspect Child Care Institutions
Visit any institution under the control of the State Government or any institution receiving aid from the Government, where children are detained or lodged for the purpose of treatment, reformation, or protection.
Participate in Child Rights Proceedings
Spread child rights literacy among various sections of society and promote awareness of the safeguards available for protection of these rights through publications, media, seminars and other available means.
Take Up Child Rights Issues with Authorities
Take up with the concerned authorities matters relating to non-implementation of laws and non-compliance with policy decisions, guidelines or instructions aimed at mitigating hardships and ensuring welfare of the children.
Annual Reporting to State Government
Submit an annual report to the State Government on the work done by the Commission and the action taken recommendations. This report is laid before the State Legislature.
